19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has secured 21 championships at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

His defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
