Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
